Coaching Vs Therapy:

What’s the Difference?

Both coaching and therapy offer meaningful support—but they serve different purposes, and knowing the distinction can help you choose what best meets your needs.

Therapy (Clinical / Psychotherapy Work)
Therapy is a clinical service focused on mental health treatment. Licensed clinicians assess, diagnose, and treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns.
This work often explores the past and present to understand patterns, process experiences, and support healing at a deeper psychological level. Therapy may be medically necessary and is often eligible for insurance reimbursement.

Coaching (Wellness & Personal Growth)
Coaching is a non-clinical, forward-focused service designed to support growth, clarity, and intentional change.
Rather than diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, coaching helps you build insight, strengthen self-awareness, clarify goals, and take aligned action in your life, relationships, and work.

Coaching can be especially helpful if you are:

  • Navigating life transitions

  • Seeking purpose, direction, or alignment

  • Wanting to deepen self-understanding and accountability

  • Looking for support in applying tools you may already have

How They Work Together
Coaching and therapy are not mutually exclusive—in fact, they often complement one another beautifully.
Some individuals engage in therapy for healing and stabilization, while also using coaching as a space to move forward, integrate growth, and stay accountable to their goals.
